Vegan Worcestershire Sauce

Hi friends!

Here’s a super simple and quick recipe for a Vegan Worcestershire sauce. Worcestershire sauce is originated in England, and its non-vegan version contains anchovies. It is used to enhance a variety of seafood, meat dishes, and even beverages like Bloody Mary. My favorite cocktail in particular. A funny enough story about this recipe is that I never liked this sauce much. I always came across it at a grill and seafood restaurants in New York many years before I became vegan. I was always looking for another sauce that was available on the table, and couldn’t figure out what is the story was with this sauce anyway. It had a strong smell of vinegar and molasses and an unusual taste.

Little did I know that just a bit of this sauce is an ingredient in a classic  Crab Cakes recipe, which are fried crab patties, a dish that I liked a lot. Crab cakes normally Served in a brioche bun with Tartar Sauce and fresh vegetables or as an appetizer before the main course. Seafood is the food I miss the most after becoming vegan. And so, this week I mustered up the courage to veganize Crab Cakes. This is how I discovered that it contains Worcestershire sauce. For this reason, we have no choice, but to sneak into the blog a Vegan Worcestershire sauce recipe, along with the 2 recipes I planned to upload originally. This Vegan Worcestershire sauce is a flavor base for these two recipes: Vegan Crab Cakes and Vegan Tartare Sauce.

The ingredients are affordable, accessible, and would yield quite a fair amount if you are like me, not going to use much of it or even if you would use it. Vegan Worcestershire sauce is super-fast to make. You need to mix all the ingredients in a saucepan, bring to a short boil of 3 minutes, and set aside to cool. Few minutes and you have a Vegan Worcestershire Sauce ready. This sauce recipe comes out as a pretty watery consistency. If you want it to become a thicker sauce, with a few more seconds, and the addition of a cornstarch slurry gradually poured into the boiled sauce and give it a stir, you will have a thick sauce. It can be stored in a glass jar or a dressing bottle for up to 4 months in the refrigerator.
